Do you often wonder if there is more to life than just existing? Do you feel like something is missing from your life? You have breath, your heart beats, your brain functions —yet deep down, you know there has to be something more. A part of you feels lifeless and broken. You feel this way because it’s true, something is broken, but you do not have to remain in that condition...

Jesus said:

“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
(John 10:10)

But when we look around at our lives, it doesn't seem that way. What happened?

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Genesis 1:1)

God created the first people, Adam and Eve, and placed them in a beautiful garden that He created. That world was perfect, there was no death, no pain, and no sickness.

Man had perfect fellowship with the Creator—they had life!

God told Adam and Eve they could eat of the fruit of any tree in the garden—except one. There was one forbidden tree and if they ate the fruit of that tree, they would die.

And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
(Genesis 2:16-17)

But this perfect situation wasn't to last. Satan, the enemy of God— a rebellious angel who disobeyed Him- tricked Eve into eating the fruit from the forbidden tree. She then gave it to Adam, who willingly ate it. They believed the lie of Satan that they could live without God. They choose to disobey their Creator who had given them life. Text

Death entered the world that day. The world was now cursed.

“... cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”
(Genesis 3:17-19)

Adam and Eve did not die physically that day, although their body began to die. However, they were separated from the source of life—God—and a separation from life is death. Since that day all of man have lived under the curse of sin.

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”
(Romans 5:12)

Just like our father, Adam, we have all disobeyed God; we have all sinned.

“ for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
(Romans 3:23)

Sin is breaking God’s law, and we have all chosen to disobey it.

* Thou shalt have no other gods before me
* Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain
* Thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not steal, thous shalt not covet
(Exodus 20:1-17 ) (The above is part of the Ten Commandments: God's basic moral law

“Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law”.
(I John 3:14)

Breaking God’s law brings a penalty —death.

“For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23)

Much like earning a wage from a job, our sin earns a wage. But this death is not just a physical death, because everyone will die one day.

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”
(Hebrews 9:27)

So what is this death that we have earned? The consequence of our sin is judgment and the sentence is death forever in hell.

“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
(Revelation 20:14-15)

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
(Revelation 21:8 )

The second death, hell, is eternal separation from the source of life-God.

But remember Christ came to give life:

“... I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me
shall never die...”
(John 11:25)

Even though man rebelled, God still loved man, and because of this, He provided a way for us to have eternal life.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
(Romans 5:8)

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 )

Jesus is God in the flesh who came to save us from the penalty of sin.

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
(Matthew 1:21, 23)

Death is the consequence of our sin, but Christ has brought us eternal life.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
(Romans 6:23)

Christ suffered for us, He died in our place so we
could live.

“who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
(I Peter 2:24)

But Christ did not stay dead, He rose again from the grave, thereby defeating sin, death and the power of Satan.

“He is not here: for he is risen…”
(Matthew 28:6)

“who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, but is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light
through the gospel:”
(II Timothy 1:9-10)

There is nothing man can do to save himself; he is doomed, no amount of good works can save him. It is only by faith in Jesus and in His substitutionary death and resurrection that man can be saved and receive life.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”
(Ephesians 2:8-9)

But how does one receive this life?

Anyone can be saved

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
(Romans 10:13)

It is as simple as believing in Jesus. Simple faith, trusting and depending on Him alone to save you from sin and hell.

“that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt
be saved.”
(Romans10:9)

But believing in Christ is more than the act of praying and asking Him to save you. It is a full dependence on Christ; believing that He can and will save you from sin and hell.
You must believe, understand, and agree that you are a sinner in need of a Savior, and that unless you fully depend on Christ and His payment for your sin you will go to hell as a consequence of your sin.

“He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
(John 3:18)

Do you believe that Jesus can and will save you from your sin and from hell if you asked Him to?

If so, ask Him to save you. Tell God you are putting your trust in Christ; admit you are a sinner who deserves judgment and hell. But that you believe He paid your penalty and rose from the grave. Tell Him you are depending on Him to forgive you of your sins and give you eternal life.

Did you just now place your trust in Christ to save you? If so, the Bible says you now have eternal life.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”
(John 6:47)

Based on the Bible, If you were to die today, where would you go? What about five years from now?
What about before you accepted Christ, where would you have gone?
